Harford Bird Club Young Birders

Do you love to get outside? Do you love to watch birds? Then come join the Harford Bird Club Young Birders and enjoy our fun, family-friendly field trips and activities.

The Harford Bird Club believes in the future of our planet and values the positive impact the outdoors has on young people. We strive to connect kids to nature through birds and birding. Our Young Birders division was established to make the world of birds accessible to school age children. The group supports youth birding throughout the county by hosting bird clubs at local schools, offering scholarships to summer bird camps, providing opportunities to develop and fine tune their skills. The support extends to educators by providing resources and opportunities to implement programs and projects at schools.

Go Birding…

What can we do for you…

What can we do for you?

  • Help set up a bird club before or after school
  • Provide speakers on many birding topics
  • Loan binoculars for nature walks
  • Lead bird walks at school or parks
  • Assist with Citizen Science projects
  • Provide an informational booth at environmental events
  • Mentor Girl Scout, Boy Scout, Capstone, and other youth projects

Horizon Award Presentation

Each year, the Harford Bird Club presents the Horizon Award to a young birder who shows dedication and promise to birding.  Along with a year’s membership to the Harford Bird Club, the Maryland Ornithological Society donates the prize of a backpack containing binoculars, a field guide, and other birding materials to the winner.  The presentation is made to the recipient at a Harford Bird Club meeting.
